Before selecting the charity for donating your car, you must find out the efficiency rating of the charitable organization. The efficiency rating will tell you their ability and capacity.
If the rating is high, it means, the larger portion of your donation will in fact go to the people, who need it. On the other hand, if the rating is low, it indicates that the charity uses more money on administration purposes rather than helping out the society.
For example, if a charity has an efficiency rating of 90%, it means, 90 cents of every dollar you donate will go directly to the people in need. The remainder will be used to cover all administrative expenses. In general, a ratio of 85% or higher indicates that the charity is doing a good job. Less than 85% means, it is poorly managed or the charity is not so legitimate.
Most charitable and non-governmental organizations agree to take vehicle donations so that they can fund the programs and services they offer to the society. On the other hand, the primary motivation from your side is to help the society. If your money is not spent for the betterment of the society, why donate in the first place?
