Connecticut residents may find affordable health insurance for their children through the HUSKY Plan. HUSKY is an acronym for Healthcare for UninSured Kids and Youth.
HUSKY offers insurance for children of low-income families. HUSKY offers two options. Part A for families whose income fits within the lower qualified income limit and Part B for children of families who earn above the limit.
1. For children to qualify they must be:
Under the age of 19 and
Live in the state of Connecticut.
Income Limitation: The income level varies depending on the number of individuals in the household.
For example, a family of 2 must earn less than $20,535 can qualify for Husky A. However, a family of 2 earning between $25,327 and $32, 171 will qualify for Husky B.
2. Coverage Cost:
Husky Part A: The cost for the coverage can range from free to minimal depending on income
Husky Part B: Premiums are based on income. For example: a family of two earning over $41,070 will be charged a group premium rate ranging from $158 to $230 per month per child. They will also be subject to co-payments.
