The oldest and one of the most reliable names in the tractor business belongs to John Deere. Since 1837 they have been making the equipment that farmers and ranchers need to successfully make a living. Initially the business was started out with plows and today they offer every single piece of equipment as well as replacement parts that could possibly be needed.
John Deere began making tractors in 1912 with the Waterloo Boy. They didnt make this piece of equipment from scratch though. Instead it was the result of buying out the Waterloo Boy tractor company. In 1923 they updated this early version of tractor and made something that was very appealing.
Initially the John Deere Model D didnt sell very well though. The problem though was that they came out during the Great Depression. Eventually the economy started doing better and The John Deere Model D was a hot seller. It continued being a leading product for them until 1953.
