Tenure is a right that teachers earn after they have been on the job and proven themselves to be quite worthy of the position. This is often part of their contract and those educators with tenure can be confident they wont lose their job due to budget cuts, low enrollment, or other factors. A person with tenure can still be fired or asked to resign from a position though based on their behaviors. This is to ensure those with tenure dont backslide in regards to their duties.
Many teachers find that tenure gives the confidence in their role at a particular location. They dont want to put down roots such as buying a home and then not have their contract renewed the next year. It is a benefit of having job security that many people like about it. The school benefits too because some teachers may jump ship when other jobs come along since they are afraid their current contract may not be renewed. Having tenure in place though prevents this from happening.
Another benefit for the facility is that most educators take great pride in their tenure position. Instead of viewing it just as a job they go to everyday, they work to make the school a better place for everyone....
