The sport of ultimate Frisbee is very competitive. What started out as a college game for fun approximately 30 years ago has turned into something that people all over the world play. There are thousands of teams out there at various colleges and clubs that want to take place in the ultimate Frisbee contests. Many of them are sanctioned by the Ultimate Players Association.
For the college teams there are schedules already in place for them so they know who they will be competing against. There are strong expectations for the players on such teams as they want to carry home the trophy for their schools. When a particular college has walked away with the title for years it is nice to work hard enough to defeat them. This takes plenty of practice as well as developing a good strategy.
There are plenty of ultimate Frisbee contests offered by the makers of Frisbees. They want to be able to endorse the competitions to reward their consumers for buying their products. It also allows the to continue selling more and more of them to people that want to find out more and that want to compete themselves.
